Press Release 3

June 2004

The long awaited refurbishment of the offices is now completed. amazing things happen where you start with a factory building which is over 100 years old!  The freight elevator was installed as a used unit at the site in 1922, by Otis Elevator Company.

The recent spring run-off which inundated and destroyed parcels of land along the tributaries of the Susquehanna River was kind to us. We sit high above the stream that runs behind the property, and the estimated 12 foot extra high water mark only eroded the lower section of the parking lot!

Inside the building, the renovations were under way.  The former social hall building, which has also been a cigar factory and a hat manufactory in its' history, may be expansive, but nothing is level or plumb, or anywhere close to it!  Jeff Mills worked as Project Manager and the end result is impressive.  He wanted to retain the old brick walls and leave them exposed, and wanted to add rest-room facilities on a storey that had none.  New doors and windows were added, along with partition walls. Custom wood moldings were made to retain the original atmosphere of the building, new electrical service was added, and the 'factory look' with exposed new conduits and pipes came out looking very well.   Every square inch of the 100 year old, now rock hard full thickness walnut floor was salvaged and reused.
